Claudius Ptolemy

Astronomer Claudius Ptolemy lived about 100-170 AD. Very little is known, even if he was born. Claudius means citizen of Rome, while Ptolemy means life to Egypt. Some sources indicate that he is a citizen of Rome, others who lived in Alexandria, Egypt.

He was also a mathematician and astrologer, geographer. In a sense he had of his time, including Leonardo da Vinci was a renaissance. Although much work Ptolemy had withdrawn his study of astronomy, astrology, geography and music are the foundations upon which future researchers built their theories.

The Ptolemaic system of the universe became the dominant cosmological model centuries later, to move until the seventeenth century by Kepler and Copernicus.

Modern astrologers like Ptolemy as the author of one of the oldest complete manuals of astrology – Tetrabiblos (Greek) means the four books. Although we are not aware of Ptolemy invented his methods of astrology we recognize his contribution as one of the masterminds behind the mass of a star in the Eastern tradition. Tetrabiblos motivated and organized the exhibition is a detailed explanation of the philosophical framework of astrology, where practitioners to answer critics of the scientific and religious reasons offered.

As one of the leading intellectuals of his time, Ptolemy added patronage and approval of astrology, its academic respectability. Maintain their credibility as a science and a rescued his art practice in the Middle Ages, when many other occult studies are persecuted for religious reasons. He spoke of astrology with authority and clarity, the establishment of Tetrabiblos of reference for astrological students. That was far from the Arab scholars, by Ptolemy as the final word on this subject, and later Europe, when it is back into Latin in the 12th Century translated.
